The Hollywood actress revealed on Tuesday that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy. The star went through the three-month procedure after discovering she carried the BRCA1 gene which dramatically increases a woman's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
In the New York Times article, entitled My Medical Choice, Angelina revealed that her doctors predicted she had an 87% risk of breast cancerand a 50% risk of ovarian cancer.
Now People magazine are reporting that the 37-year-old star is also planning to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries.
The US publication writes that the actress is considering the operation, although "some doctors recommend patients undergo the surgery by age 40 or when a woman is done having children" as it may trigger early menopause.
Angelina lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to ovarian cancer in 2007.
Meanwhile, Angelina's surgeon Dr Kristi Funk, of the Pink Lotus Breast Center, has blogged in detail about the main stages of the star's treatment.
In an open article on the centre's website, Dr Funk revealed that the actress was in good spirits after the operation to remove her breasts.
“On day four after her mastectomies, I was pleased to find her not only in good spirits with bountiful energy, but with two walls in her house covered with freshly assembled storyboards for the next project she is directing. All the while she spoke, six drains dangled from her chest, three on each side, fastened to an elastic belt around her waist," she said.
